William Penn Baseball split with Clarke once again in the two day, doubleheaders.

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen baseball team was on both sides of tremendous pitching performances on Sunday as it split another Midwest Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Clarke.

William Penn (14-12, 4-2 MCC) claimed the opener 2-0, but fell in the second contest 12-0.

Cory DeRush (Sr., Grand Junction, Colo., Business Management) provided nearly all of the offense on Sunday, going a perfect-3-for-3 at the plate in the first game. He started the bottom of the first with a triple and later scored.

The senior, who had three of his squad’s four hits, then had a fifth-inning single and scored the game’s last run on a passed ball.

Josh Ruiz (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., General Mathematics) worked out of a few jams to remain undefeated in 2015. The senior (5-0) permitted six hits in his third shutout of the season. He struck out three and walked two.

Unfortunately, WPU saw the other end of the stick in the nightcap as Clarke pitcher Andrew Redman tossed a no-hitter to move the Crusaders to 13-13 (4-4 MCC). Five Statesmen hurlers were unable to keep pace with Redman as CU did most of its work with nine runs in the third. Cole Williams (Sr., Napa, Calif., Physical Education) topped the pitching group with a scoreless seventh inning.

Patrick Roxbury (Sr., Canyon, Calif., Sociology), who had an RBI in the opener, was the lone baserunner against Redman by drawing a fourth-inning walk.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa Thursday to host Grand View in an MCC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
