Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Greg Hafner has announced the hiring of Willie Scott as the school’s new Head Women’s Basketball Coach.

While he has had limited opportunities coaching women’s basketball, Scott brings to WPU extensive experience and a depth of knowledge on the hardwood, having served in numerous capacities in the world of men’s basketball. He will be coming to the University from AIB College of Business where he served as assistant coach in the men’s program during the 2014-2015 season. Prior to coming to AIB, the Eagles were 4-78 in their first three years of existence, but with his guidance the team went 19-10 and placed second in the Midwest Collegiate Conference (received national votes).

In addition to normal assistant coach responsibilities, he also oversaw all aspects of the campus’ Athletic Activities Center.

Prior to his season at AIB, Scott had numerous coaching positions, most recently at the Chicago Steam of the ABA Professional Basketball League. Also the franchise’s General Manager, he led the Steam to a 23-2 record in 2013-2014.

A short stint at Walter H. Dyett High School in 2012-2013 was preceded by a shot at the NCAA Division I level as assistant coach and interim head coach at his alma mater Bradley University (2010-2012).

From 2008-2010, Scott was the head man at Malcolm X Community College where the team went 34-26 overall and captured the first winning season in 15 years. While there, he also secured a contract with Priority Sports, Inc. which allowed NBA pre-draft clients to train at the college.

Scott was also a training specialist at the very highest league, working with the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers to help train signee Travis Outlaw. Time at another NCAA Division I–Jackson State University–was spent as an advisory assistant in the program.

A graduate of Bradley in 1983, he led the men’s basketball team to the 1982 NIT title and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. His playing career continued at the professional level for nearly 15 years, highlighted by being voted the #1 player in Argentina in 1987. Scott competed in the Continental Basketball Association (1983-1985), the European Professional Basketball League (1985-1991), the South American Argentina League (1993-1995), and the World Basketball League (1995-1997).

Scott has also made a career outside of the gym, owning the Willie Scott Custom Clothier company since 1998. Having been trained by tailors during his time in Argentina, he has designed clothes for such NBA superstars as Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, and Dwayne Wade and other mega celebrities like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Steve Harvey.
