Question of the Week: Do you plan on going shopping on Black Friday?
Last week we asked you if you were pleased with the outcome of the election. 42 residents responded with 23 residents (55%) saying yes they were pleased and 19 residents (45%) saying they weren’t pleased. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the view of Osky News.
Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. Black Friday is known to shoppers as the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. Stores spend weeks advertising for their big sales on electronics and other must have items. Consumers line up in front of the stores hours before they open, with some stores opening at midnight and staying open for 24 hours at a time. As soon as the stores open, consumers are seen rushing into the stores to be the first to get to those big sale items.
In recent years, Black Friday has been deadly. In 2008, an employee at a New York Wal-Mart was killed in a “stampede” after consumers burst through the doors 5 minutes before the scheduled opening time. In this same event, a pregnant women was trampled however she did not receive any major injuries. As a result of this incident, Wal Mart stopped using the term “Black Friday”. Those who support Black Friday say that it is a great way to save money on hot items of the year. Those who are against it say that it is not worth the risk of being injured while attempting to save a few bucks on a hot item. They also say that many stores don’t carry much of the hot items so if you get into the store safely, you may be out of luck.
Now its your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 pm next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting results. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at inf0@oskynews.org.
