Did Anybody Say Spaghetti
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Winter time in Iowa is about those indoor sports, basketball and wrestling. There is no quicker way to help draw a crowd to your event than to tie it to a basketball night.
Well, the Oskaloosa High School Student Council did just that with their annual Spaghetti Night in the small gym. There a free will donation got you a heaping serving of homemade spaghetti and garlic bread, along with something to wash it down.
Student Council Adviser Kim Gile said the reason for the Spaghetti Supper, “we do a fundraiser which is ‘Voices for Victims’.” Helping with that is the groups state project. But most of all, Gile says, “We just kind of like to feed people, and the kids like to make spaghetti, because everybody likes spaghetti.”
Ben Rurup, who was chair of the committee that helped to put on the benefit, stated one of the main reasons for holding the Spaghetti Night was, “It kind of gets the community knowing that we’re actually here. Without the community knowing we are here, we do so much that the community doesn’t realize.”
“It’s important because it helps us raise money”, as the group is looking to split the money between prom and their state project, ‘Voices for Victims’. “We just recently donated a $300.00 check to the Mahaska County Crisis Center”, saying it was an emotional gift, Ben explained as he continued to prepare drinks for the crowd working its way down the food line.
