Statesmen Roll Past Missouri Baptist 33-13 in Heart Dual

St. Louis, Mo.– The No. 3 ranked William Penn women’s wrestling cruised to a 33-13 victory over Missouri Baptist, dropping only three weight classes in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Thursday.

The Statesmen built an early 9-0 lead, with the first two matches ending before going the distance. At 103 pounds, Olivia Atkins (Jr., St. Peters, Mo., Nursing) earned a 13-0 technical fall, followed by Teya Garner (Jr., San Antonio, Texas, Exercise Science), who secured a pin in just 1:01 at 110 pounds.

WPU gave up a forfeit at 117 pounds, immediately followed by Missouri Baptist handing over forfeits at 124-pounds and 131-pounds. 124-pounder Tatiana Paragas (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Exercise Science) and 131-pounder Kendall Bostelman (Sr., Napoleon, Ohio, Exercise Science) were awarded the forfeits for the Statesmen, extending the Statesmen lead to 19-5.

MBU responded with back-to-back victories at 138-pounds and 145-pounds, bringing the score to 20-12, still in favor of William Penn.

The Statesmen closed out the night by taking the final three matches. 160-pounder Alexa Wolf (So., Rogers, Ark., Kinesiology) led the way with a 6-4 decision, followed by 180-pounder Piper Fowler (Fr., Cleveland, Tenn., Psychology) securing a 1:40 pin. Phoebe Burt (Sr., Coralville, Iowa, Sociology and Psychology and Human Services) finished the dual with a forfeit at 207 pounds, as WPU topped Missouri Baptist 33-13.

“Overall, really proud of how our girls competed,” Head Coach Jake Kadel said. “We had some nice ranked wins tonight for a few individuals. We have an awesome group of women that really looked forward to competing despite battling some injuries. Again, super proud of them for competing hard when they might not feel the best or we had to make some last minute lineup changes. It’s awesome for us as coaches to get to work with such dedicated women that don’t make excuses. We have a little time to work on some stuff and then we’re off to Nebraska next week.”
