Norma Anderson, 98, of Oskaloosa, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Oskaloosa Care Center. Norma Lee Anderson was born February 10, 1925, in Oskaloosa to Worth Nelson and Mabel Faye Longaker, Burbank.
Norma was a 1944 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.
Following her education, she briefly worked in the Mahaska County Auditor’s office and then for five years at General Mills.
Norma was united in marriage to Marvin Virgil Anderson on February 14, 1949, in Ottumwa, Iowa.
They made their home in Oskaloosa, and Norma worked as the A.C.P. (Agriculture Conservation Practices) clerk for the A.S.C.S. (Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Services), a position she held for 20 years. In the late 1980s, Marvin’s job took them to Waterloo, Iowa. They lived there for ten years, returning to Oskaloosa in 1998.
Norma was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. In retirement, she volunteered at the Ecumenical Food Cupboard. Her hobbies were crocheting, needlework, and painting portraits.
Although Norma and Marvin had no children, they surrounded themselves and shared in the lives of their many nieces and nephews.
Norma’s family includes a sister-in-law, Betty Anderson, of Oskaloosa; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband Marvin on July 19, 2000; five sisters: Ila (& Everett) Owens, Nelda (& Calvin) Coffey, Lois Burbank, Esther Burbank, and Joan Hayes; three brothers: Charles and William “Bill” Burbank and Worth Burbank in infancy; three brothers-in-law: Wesley, Robert and Carl Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Marie (& James) McCurdy.
Funeral services for Norma will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Chad Lierman officiating.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday,the family will greet visitors from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
Interment will occur in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House or the Central United Methodist Church.
