Osky Girls Impress Coaches At Relays

by Betsy Luck

It was a beautiful night for an early April meet at the Osky Relays on Thursday night.
The team came away with a third place team finish with 99.6 points with the help of 13 top three finishes. Individual champions were Ryleigh Wilken in the high jump setting a new personal record of 5 foot 1 inch, this jump moved her into a tie for 6th on the All-Time Top 10 list, and Maleah Walker in the 100 m dash with a time of 13.02. Second place finishes included: the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (VanVeldhuizen, Wilken, Wells-Stout and Quang) who ran a time that was only 2 tenths off their season best from the 2022 season. Other second place finishes were: Hannah Quang in the 100 m Hurdles, Maleah Walker in the 200 m dash and the Long Jump, Evelyn Adam in the 400 m Hurdles (PR) and the 4×100 (Beane, Quang, Moorman, Walker).

This was our first outdoor meet of the season. The coaches were very impressed by the efforts given by the girls. Our first two outdoor meets were canceled so the girls were very excited to compete tonight. The team had 17 new personal records and two season best relays on the night. The best part is that the PR’s were spread across all of the different distances and field events. The hard work that they have been putting in at practice showed through at the meet.

The girls travel to Ft. Madison next Tuesday for a meet.
