City of Oskaloosa Announces Construction Project Delay
City of Oskaloosa Press Release
OSKALOOSA, IA —The city of Oskaloosa has announced there will be a delay in the completion of the new YMCA Recreation Center.
The delays are related to the building’s pool area. The project’s former contractor vacated the job site in December 2022 and notified the city on January 11 that workers would not be returning to meet the firm’s contractual obligations.
The city terminated the agreement with the contractor on February 3 and filed a claim with the performance bond shortly thereafter. A lawsuit has also been filed in the case. The city is being represented by legal counsel and cannot comment on pending litigation, at this time.
“We understand how important this project is to our community, and we are working diligently to move forward with construction as soon as possible,” said Amal Eltahir, City Manager. “Our hope is to successfully complete the work once all issues are resolved. We appreciate our community’s understanding and patience throughout this process.”
The project was initially set to be completed in September 2021. A new completion date has not been determined at this time.
