WPU Women Bring Home Gold at Midland
Norfolk, Neb.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team claimed top honors at the Midland Classic last Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn was first out of seven teams with a tally of 8,414 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. Emily Eckhoff of Hastings (Neb.) led the individual scoring with a 203.5 average (1,221 pins).
Brittany Johnson (Fr., Schuyler, Neb., Business Management) and Stephanie Adams (Fr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) were both named to the all-tournament team for their play. Johnson was third with a 197.3 average (1,184 total pins) and Adams was fifth at 195.2 (1,171 total pins).
Kirstin Newberry (Sr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) and Kelsey Johnson (Jr., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education) also rolled in all six games with Newberry posting a 189.7 clip and Johnson at 176.8.
Three fellow Statesmen finished off the scoring, led by Montana Pence (Fr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education) with a 174.3 average in three games. Emily Braga (So., Newton, Iowa, Communications) averaged 195.0 pins in two games and MacKenzie Boyd (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) knocked down 142 pins in her lone competition.
Next: William Penn takes a couple weeks off before traveling to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Warhawk Open on Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8.
