Des Moines–The Statesmen women’s track and field team got things going in its outdoor campaign on Friday by competing at the Grand View Invitational.

Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Physical Education) headlined the day’s efforts, placing in the top 10 on three occasions. She was second in the shot put (41-8.75) and ninth in both the discus (109-9) and hammer throw (119-0).

Silver was also earned by Cassandra Kingery (So., Winfield, Iowa, Communications) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.47 seconds), Whitley Schertz (Sr., Eddyville, Iowa, Exercise Science) in the pole vault (8-0.5), and by the 4×800-meter relay team (10:33.59).

Kenzie Gunter (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management & Psychology) was one spot behind Kingery in the hurdles in 16.60 seconds, while Nona Carter (Fr., Downey, Calif., Exercise Science) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.07 ticks. Fellow fourth-place finishers were Emma Hoerr (Jr., Chillicothe, Ill., Physical Education) in the discus (120-9) and Guadalupe Gonzalez (Fr., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) in the 5,000-meter run (20:38.45).

Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) crossed the line fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.98) and Kristin Lastovka (Jr., Brooklyn, Iowa, Business Management) (36-2) was sixth in the shot put. Briana McRae (So., Racine, Wis., Undecided) took eighth in the shot at 34-10.25.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Pella next Thursday to compete in the Central Invitational.
