WPU in Top 10 in Indiana

Indianapolis, Ind.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team recorded a top-10 placing as it hit the lanes at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn, which is ranked #24 in collegebowling.com’s rating, finished eighth out of 30 teams with 8,520 pins in six regular games and 15 Baker rounds. Robert Morris (Ill.) claimed the team title with 8,884 pins.
Pete Vergos of Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) guided the 285-player field with a 228.8 average (1,373 pins).
Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) headlined the varsity lineup with a top-10 effort; the senior was sixth overall at 209.5.
Aleksander Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) narrowly missed joining Majka in the top 10, taking 11th at 204.3. Nick Walker (Sr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) also started all six games and was next at 195.8.
Rok Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) rolled five games with a 180.8 clip, while Logan Mason (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) produced a 168.5 average in four rounds. Finally, David Decker (Jr.., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) rounded out the lineup, averaging 154.7 pins in three games.
WPU’s reserve squad was in action as well, placing fourth out of 13 teams in the JV standings with 7,594 pins. Braxton Coble (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) led the second team at 180.0; he was one of five players to start all five rounds.
Jayson Miner (Fr., Silvis, Ill., Physical Education) was runner-up with a 177.5 clip, while Josh Fane (Jr., Brownsville, Wis., Business Management and Accounting) (175.2), Albert Liggins (Fr., Ravanel, S.C.) (166.2) and Austin Czerwinski (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Applied Computer Science) (163.5) also competed for the navy and gold.
Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Lawrence and Topeka, Kan. Saturday and Sunday, November 3-4 to compete in the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge.
