Wauwatosa, Wis.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team finished in the top half as it began the 2017-2018 season at the Midwest Championships Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed 19th out of 40 teams with 7,893 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. The team sat in 17th place after regular individual play, but dropped a pair of positions during ‘team’ bowl. St. Ambrose won the team crown with 9,102 pins.

Natalie Koprowitz of SAU topped the individual standings with a 216.7 average.

Bailey Palmer (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided) guided the Statesmen by placing 46th with a 186.8 average.

Kayla Gifford (So., Camanche, Iowa, Biology), with a 176.5 mark, and Audra Farley (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education), with a 174.3 average, also started all six games.

Nicole Craft (So., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education) rolled five games with a 182.4 clip, while Amber Ovel (Jr., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management) managed an average of 156.3 pins in four games.

Abbey Fangman (Fr., Waterloo, Iowa, Elementary Education) averaged 181.0 pins (two games), and
Nicole Mottier (Fr., Madison, Wis., Computer Science) knocked down 126 pins in her lone appearance.

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on October 21-22 to compete in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout.
