William Penn University Welcomed Dr. Jemimah Njuki
Oskaloosa, Iowa – William Penn University hosted their annual World Food Prize lecture on Wednesday, October 18th at George Daily Auditorium.
This year, the speaker was Dr. Jemimah Njuki, Senior Program Officer for Canada’s International Development Research Centre.
Njuki spoke to students about her journey in life and her wishes as a younger person to get away from the agricultural industry, but found her passion carrying out gender research and managed women’s economic empowerment programs in Africa and Asia.
The World Food Prize started in 1986 and has been the leading international award to recognize outstanding individuals who have made staggering contributions to improve the quality, quantity, or availability of food throughout the world. It recognizes contributions in any field involved in the world food supply, including food and agricultural science and technology, manufacturing, marketing, nutrition, economics, poverty alleviation, political leadership and the social sciences.
The World Food Prize was originally envisioned by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, winner of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in world agriculture.
