William Penn Tallies Another Runner-Up Finish
Fort Madison — The William Penn men’s golf team captured its second runner-up finish of the spring season as it competed at the Iowa Wesleyan Invitational Tuesday. The Statesmen finished with a season-best team score of 305. Knox took home the team championship with a 298, along with individual honors as Brendan Wise shot a one-under 70 to help his squad to victory.
Spencer Tucker (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) finished atop the leaderboard for the navy and gold, firing a 74 to tie for third place.
Following closely behind Tucker was Jordan Lester (Grad., Lamoni, Iowa, Sports Management) and Austin Hafner (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) who both carded a 76. Lester notched his fifth top-10 of the season, while Hafner notched his second. Rounding out the counting scores was Cameron Johnson (Jr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management), who signed for a 79, while Jonathan Jarvis (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Business Management) closed with an 82 to round out the varsity squad.
Corey Hicks (Fr., Lake City, Iowa, Business Management) and Harrison Murray (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Physical Education) both competed for the reserve team and had had their best rounds as Statesmen with Hicks carding a 78 and Murray carding an 80.
“I’m proud of the way we played today,” said Head Coach Steve Tucker. “The weather rivaled what we had at Mozingo a few days ago. I’m glad to see we have seven or eight guys who are currently in the mix for the varsity squad.”
Up Next: The Statesmen will travel to Kansas City, Mo. next Tuesday and Wednesday to compete in the Park Classic held at The Duece Golf Course.
