William Penn Splits Season-Opening Comps at CUNE Day of Duals

Seward, Neb.–The Statesmen dance team posted a couple of big scores Saturday as it began its competition season at the Concordia Day of Duals.

In its first dual, WPU was narrowly defeated by host Concordia. The Statesmen received a score of 79.37 points, while Concordia was a bit better at 80.43 points.

Later in the day, the navy and gold clipped Dordt by scoring 73.47 points; DU earned 71.77 points.

The team consisted of Jili Butler (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Psychology), Taegin Butler (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Psychology), Kyah Chamberlin (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education), Kate Coley (Fr., Streator, Ill., Psychology), Kylie Coley (Fr., Streator, Ill., Undecided), Biana Cooney (So., Little Rock, Ark., Psychology), Emily Garcia (Fr., Davenport, Iowa, Sports Management), Abby Nelson (Sr., Belmond, Iowa, Sports Management), Natalie Redlinger (Jr., Sigourney, Iowa, Business Management), and A’niyah Thomas (Sr., Inner Grove Heights, Minn., Human Services).

“I am so proud of our team and what they produced on the floor for our first competition of the year,” Head Coach Abby Reynolds said. “We had injuries that led to reworking our routine, and to see our athletes come together, work as one, and have this personal drive to win, it impressed me so much as a coach. I would not have wanted anything more from them today. I believe our team is the real deal. Things are clicking and we are beginning to build the legacy we deserve.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Columbia, Mo. on Friday, February 23 to compete in the Columbia Cougar Classic.
