William Penn Singers and Jazz Ensemble perform to large audience
Oskaloosa, Iowa- The William Penn Singers and Jazz Band held their Fall concert Wednesday Evening at 7:30 PM. The concert was the second performance of the week.
The 19 member William Penn Singers started off the evening with the song Gaudete! They then sang Hold Steady with the Gate, Search me O God, Et in Terra Pax, and Bugler’s Holiday. The song Bugler’s Holiday is normally heard at the City Band Concerts, however as Choir Director Anita Meinert said at the start of the song, the women singers were meant to be Trumpets, and the men singers are meant to be the other background sounds.
After the Singers, a selection from the Musical Godspell was performed. William Penn University Presented the musical last week. Several of the cast members are in the choir. Two of those members, Chris Meinert and Kelly Howerton reprised their roles as Judas and Jesus, respectfully, for the song “All for the Best.”
After the Singers, the William Penn Jazz Ensemble took the stage for their performance. The 21 member Jazz Ensemble performed a total of 8 selections. The group started with the selection Blues Dance. They next played My Buddy, Northern Encounter, Day In Day Out, Til this Day, Muddy Road, and Superstition. They ended with the selection The Time Warp. All but two of the selections, The Time Warp and My Buddy, featured soloists.
