Bill Gregory, 79 of Montezuma passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 28, 2021 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. William Allen Gregory was born on February 27, 1942 to Oral and Mae Jordan Gregory at Barnes City, Iowa.

Bill attended Montezuma High School.

On July 9, 1961, Bill and Marla Griffin were united in marriage and to this union four children were born; Allen, Niesje, David and Roger.

Bill worked at the Phillips Gas Station in Montezuma and for the Carmen Johnson Elevator at Ewart. He also farmed part-time and began his 38-year career working for the DOT, retiring in 2000 due to his health. During his time with the DOT, Bill worked at the Montezuma shop before going to Malcom where he was a supervisor. He also served as an Auxiliary Policeman in Montezuma.

After retirement, Bill enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, western movies, and RFD. He always attended his children’s sporting events including football and track when they were younger. Family was very important to Bill and he never missed a Christmas or New Year’s holiday due to his work. His grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marla; his children: Allen (& Neva) Gregory of Montezuma, Niesje (& Ronnie) Licht of Montezuma, David (& Lori) Gregory of Le Grand and Roger (& Tammie) Gregory of Grinnell; his eight grandchildren: Aaron (& Brett Stanbery) Devig, Jesse (& Aide) Devig, Alyssa (& Paul) Gregory, Serena (& Adam) Montgomery, William Gregory, Presley (& Dylan Miller) Gregory, Hannah Gregory and Emma Jo Gregory; his great grandchildren: Quinn Montgomery, Liam Montgomery and Luke Devig; his sisters: Betty Ellis of Grinnell, Vera Lull of Johnston, Norma (& Don) Van Ersvelde of Deep River and Jan Kahue of Sacramento, CA; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Allen and Edith Jordan; his brother, Russell Gregory; brothers-in-law, Dean Lull and Robert Ellis; and his parents-in-law, Vern and Niesje Griffin.

As was Bill’s wish, his body has been cremated.
Memorial services will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
A visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department or St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
