Wiley Van Ommen, 72, of rural Searsboro passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Wiley Ray Van Ommen, the son of Walter P. and Mary Retha (Heitsman) Van Ommen, was born on July 25, 1949 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Wiley graduated from Montezuma High School in 1967.

On November 12, 1977, Wiley was united in marriage to Kathleen Reed in Montezuma. Together they raised two children, Steve and Amanda.

Wiley was a hard worker and farmed all of his life in the Montezuma and Searsboro areas. He worked at Farmhand in Grinnell before working for Montezuma Manufacturing for 18 years, but farming and raising cattle was Wiley’s passion.

He was very talented, loved doing metal fabrication and enjoyed welding, but most of all he loved life on the farm. Wiley passed away doing what he enjoyed most, taking care of his cattle.

He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Iowa Beef Producers.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Van Ommen of Searsboro; his children, Steve (& Nicole) Van Ommen of Riverside and Amanda (& Chris) Hagenow of Urbandale; his grandchildren, Haley Holden, Eleanor Van Ommen, Owen Hagenow, Noah Hagenow and Sophia Hagenow; his sister, Wauneta (& Fred) Davis of Newton; and his nieces, nephews and many friends.

Wiley was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wayne Van Ommen.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Community Hope Church with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hope Church.

Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
