Whitehead Collects Second MCC Award in a Row

Jennifer Whitehead is 6-6 with a 1.59 ERA in her sophomore season

Oskaloosa–Jennifer Whitehead (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) had another stellar week and was rewarded for her nifty numbers as she was again named Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week today.

Whitehead, a four-time career honoree, was 2-0 last week as William Penn (15-11) opened its league slate with wins in three of four contests.

The sophomore started with a two-hit shutout (her first of 2012) against Mount Mercy Wednesday. She struck out nine and walked three in the victory.

Not completely on her game Sunday, the southpaw battled through, scattering eight hits in a one-run showing versus Ashford. She recorded four strikeouts with one base on balls.

For the year, Whitehead is 6-6 with a 1.59 Earned Run Average. In 79 innings of work, she has 49 strikeouts against 22 walks, and opponents are hitting just .237 against her.

Since starting 1-5, she has made a 180-degree change, going 5-1 in her last six games. In exactly one month’s time, Whitehead has lowered her ERA 2.72 points from 4.31 on February 25.

The award is the fourth of the year for the Lady Statesmen.
