Veda Zimmerman, 90 of Oskaloosa, formerly of Deep River and New Sharon, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, October 28, 2016 at the Oskaloosa Care Center. Veda Clarean Zimmerman, the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Surber) Sanders, was born on March 20, 1926 northwest of Barnes City.

Veda started school in Gibson and due to many moves she attended several country schools in different counties and finally finishing grade school in Oskaloosa. She married Kenneth Knight and they later divorced. She lived in Oskaloosa for a time and worked at Holubs Greenhouse for nine years.

On July 1, 1975, Veda was united in marriage to Leland Zimmerman in Boulder, Colorado. They lived in LeGrand, Iowa before moving to Deep River in 1978. In 1993, the couple moved to Prairie Homes Retirement in New Sharon. Leland passed away December 24, 1999.

Veda enjoyed flowers, bowling, camping the Eagles Drill Team and attended her brothers jam session regularly. She was very helpful if anyone needed a ride or anything at all. Veda was a member of the New Sharon First Christian Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles in Oskaloosa.

Veda was survived by her half brothers: Kenneth (& Joann) Sanders, Vincent (& Annette) Sanders and Carmen (& Dorothy) Sanders; a half sister, Kathy (& Bob) Dunwoody; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and many other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step mother; brothers: Millard, Wayne, Leonard and La Vern; a sister, Aletha Carnahan; a half brother, Marvin Sanders; and a step sister, Odra Fisher.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, October 31, 2016 at the New Sharon First Christian Church.
Burial will be held in White Oak Cemetery near Thornburg. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Sharon First Christian Church.
