(Urbin) Dale Grace, 88, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Dale was born July 3, 1925, at Rose Hill, Iowa, the son of Emery and Mildred Simpkins Grace. He graduated from Rose Hill High School with the class of 1943.

Following high school he served in the United States Navy as a member of the Sea Bees. Following his discharge he returned to Rose Hill and started his career as a heavy equipment operator. On November 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Vance at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Betty died on March 30, 2009. He operated heavy equipment for various people, lastly he worked for Junior VanDusseldorp. He retired in the early 1990’s.

Early in life Dale was the banjo player for the Rose Hill Ramblers. He was a member of the LST association. Dale was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He also enjoyed keeping up with his military friends and traveling to LST Association functions.

His family includes his three children, Christine (& Timothy) Smith of Aurora, Colorado, Clay (& Ginger) Grace of Oskaloosa and Roy Grace of Oskaloosa; a son in law, Jack Robinson of Davenport; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Myrna Tinsley of Carson City, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Elaine Robinson; and a brother, Everett Grace.

As was Dale’s wish his body has been cremated and no services are planned.
Burial of the urn will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
