Two Late Goals Sink William Penn on Road

Dubuque–Although they scored an own goal in the early minutes, the Statesmen could not get over the .500 mark in a 2-1 setback to Clarke in Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s soccer play Saturday.

William Penn (7-8, 2-3 MCC) broke through first on an own goal at the 18:33 mark. The Statesmen outshot the home team 5-3 in the first half, but failed to keep the lead after the break.

The lead stood for much of the second stanza, but the Crusaders, who owned a final shot advantage of 13-8, tallied the equalizer in the 82nd minute. The game seemed destined for extra play until Clarke (8-4-1, 3-2 MCC) put away the game-winner with 29 seconds remaining.

Waseem Vahed (Fr., Lenasia, South Africa, Computer Science) topped the offense with three shots, while Mason Bandy (So., Calgary, Alberta, Biology) posted four saves.
