Two Killed, Two Injured in Highway 163 Crash Near Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa, IA — A tragic accident on Highway 163 near the intersection with Highland Avenue on Friday evening claimed the lives of two Oskaloosa residents and injured two others. The crash, which occurred around 8:47 p.m., remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities reported that a 2018 Subaru Outback, driven by 43-year-old Sy Yang of Oskaloosa, was traveling eastbound on Highway 163 when it collided with an agricultural tiller being towed by a 1996 John Deere tractor. The tractor, driven by 68-year-old Gary Edward Lisk, also of Oskaloosa, was merging into the left lane when the collision occurred.

The impact caused severe damage to the Subaru, resulting in the deaths of Sy Yang and his wife, 45-year-old Rachel Anne Yang, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The couple’s two children, 22-year-old Kaylah Ntsais Yang and 18-year-old Benjamin Ntuj Txheem Yang, were also in the vehicle and sustained injuries. They were transported to Mahaska Health by ambulance and are expected to recover.

The driver of the tractor, Gary Lisk, did not report any injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
