Trenton Nickel, 10, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. He was born April 18, 2011, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Nickel and Crystal Carruthers.

Trenton was a fourth-grade student at Oskaloosa Elementary. He enjoyed going to school and spending time with his classmates, teachers, and associates.

Trenton was a loving little boy that could not verbalize his affection to this family and friends, he was an ACE at using his non-verbal skills to let those around him know how he felt. He loved to watch television, watch and snuggle animals, snuggle with friends and family, and most of all keep his caretakers on their toes.

His family includes his mom, Crystal Carruthers of Barnes City; his dad, Kenneth Edward Nickel of Oskaloosa; his grandparents and caregivers, Tina and Albert Nickel of Oskaloosa; his sisters, Dara and Tila Nicholson both of Mt. Pleasant; aunts and uncles, Mary Nickel of Oskaloosa, Gary and Elena Nickel, Sr. of Green City, Missouri, Dawn Nickel of Oskaloosa, Mikel and Amara Diakite of Albia, and Jasmyne Miller of Mt. Pleasant; many cousins including, Janea and Dominique Franklin, Devonte Mackerl, Krystianna, Lora, Jr. Nickel; a great aunt, Tina Gardner; and great uncle, Gerald Nickel.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2022, at 6 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
Trenton will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon from 4 until service time at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
