Three Named to Heart’s Second Team
Oskaloosa–A trio of William Penn men’s soccer players garnered recognition for impressive regular seasons as the 2021 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams were announced Thursday.
Kenedy Deviska (Sr., Pignon, Haiti, Wellness and Recreation), Luke Andrews (Sr., Andover, England, Sports Management), and Aaron Keita (Sr., Monrovia, Liberia, Computer Science) were all chosen for the 13-member second team. An additional 13 players were selected to the third team, while 14 individuals secured first-team laurels.
Deviska is now a four-time all-Heart honoree (second time on the second team), while Andrews and Keita are both making their first appearances on the league’s top squads. Deviska is the first player in program history to earn four all-conference awards in his career.
The threesome led #23 WPU to a 12-6 regular-season record, including an 8-4 mark in the Heart, which netted the #5 seed in the tournament that starts Friday.
Deviska currently has 10 goals and five assists for 25 points. The senior has warmed up as of late, scoring in six-consecutive games, including two in the regular-season finale last Saturday. He has recorded three game-winning scores and converted on his lone penalty-kick attempt.
Deviska ranks seventh in the Heart in both goals and points.
Andrews has been a stalwart in the Statesmen defense, helping the team to five shutouts and allowing just 1.16 goals per game. The senior has figured into the offense attack as well with three goals (one game-winner) and one assist for seven points.
Keita has played well all-around, assisting the defense while also producing one goal and four assists for six points.
Alessandro Salvadego of Central Methodist dominated the list of major award winners as he was tabbed as the Heart’s Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year. His teammate Marcos German claimed the league’s Defensive Player of the Year laurel, while their head coach Alex Nichols was chosen as the Heart’s Coach of the Year. Gyorgy Kamaras of Baker earned the Freshman of the Year honor.
