The City Band Season over for 2016
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The festive spirit found on the Oskaloosa square every Thursday night has come to a close for the 2016 season. The Oskaloosa City Band has completed another season of entertaining people from all around the area.
The end of the year came with a bit of a light show as well, as the skies started flickered with lighting. Those approaching storms are why the band started the evening about 20 minutes early.
Bruce Peiffer, Oskaloosa City Band Conductor, said, “Every year is so much fun. We’ve had good weather. Tonight was a little warm, but the enthusiasm makes you forget about it.”
Peiffer went on to recognize Margaret Ratcliff, who helped coordinate the food vendors and the themes for many of the nights on the square. Peiffer also recognized Mahaska Drug for their efforts during the year as well.
“The city has really come alive this summer and we hope we’re a big part of that,” added Peiffer. “It’s so much fun to work with adults who are professional and to play the music you’ve always wanted to play. I’m in seventh heaven every Thursday night.”
Ratcliff, who has been a big part of making Thursday nights on the square so successful this year, said she hoped to be able to give folks something to do before the band played. “It’s wonderful to see the families enjoying the things in the park,” added Ratcliff.
