Suspicious Package Raises Alarm In Oskaloosa

Last night a concerned resident called us about a suspicious suitcase sitting unattended along the side of the roadway in the 900 block of B Ave W.

Mutual aid was called in to investigate, and an explosive-detection K9 from Monroe County indicated on the suitcase. The Fire Marshal was contacted and after several hours of investigation, the contents of the suitcase were found to be safe.

We would like to thank members of the Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Co. Sheriff’s Office Albia, Iowa, Mahaska Health paramedics, Mahaska County 911 Communications, and the State Fire Marshal for their assistance in the investigation.

Additionally, thank you to a perceptive member of the City of Oskaloosa for seeing something and saying something!
