Kansas City, Mo.–Four different players scored as the William Penn men’s soccer team defeated Avila 4-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday.

WPU (7-4-1, 4-3 Heart), which moved over the .500 mark in league action, outshot the Eagles (5-8, 1-6 Heart) by a 17-6 tally.

Daniel Hernandez (Jr., Tulare, Calif., Mechanical Engineering) gave the visitors the early lead with an unassisted goal just 3:20 into the afternoon. It is his third score of the season.

Diego Navarro (Fr., Madrid, Spain, Mechanical Engineering) then upped his goals total to a team-best 11 at the 49:16 juncture, while Moussa Ndiaye (So., St. Louis, Mo., Business Management) capped WPU’s scoring in the 59th minute. Ndiaye has two goals this fall.

AU got on the board in the 67th, but never really challenged the Statesmen. Guillermo Pineda (Fr., Madrid, Spain, Business Management & Communications) finished the win with two saves.

“We played some good soccer at times,” Head Coach Jaymee Highcock said. “We were definitely capable of scoring a few more goals and having the scoreline be a little more impressive. The entire squad played a part in today’s win. We will go into our matchup with Missouri Valley full of confidence.”
