Statesmen to Host a Series of Cancer Awareness Games
Oskaloosa, Iowa — William Penn University will be hosting a series of Cancer Awareness games throughout the month of October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Volleyball will host Clarke on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Penn Gymnasium for their Dig Pink game. While across town, men’s and women’s soccer will host their Breast Cancer Awareness games against Avila on Wednesday, October 12. The women will play at 4 p.m. and the men will start at 6 p.m. at the Lacey Recreation Complex.
Throughout all contests, raffles and t-shirts will be sold supporting cancer awareness. During all contests, the Statesmen are also requesting that all fans show their support by wearing pink.
The grand finale celebration will take place Saturday, October 15, as the Statesmen football team faces off against St. Mary (Kan.). Kickoff will start at 3 p.m. at Lacey Complex Stadium.
There are a number of activities revolved around this event for the Statesmen:
-Silent Auction will take place at the stadium from 12-3 p.m. (Items will be updated on the Statesmen facebook page)
– All gate proceeds will be donated back to Mahaska Health Radiology and the Local Relay for Life chapter.
– There will be pink ribbons handout out throughout the game.
– There will be a pre-game kid’s zone, including games and face painting.
– At halftime, there will be a balloon release and a cancer awareness recognition honoring and supporting all the cancer survivors and those affected by cancer presently. – Throughout the game, pink Statesmen Fight Back Cancer t-shirts will be sold and pink footballs will be thrown out by the cheerleading squad.
-Also throughout the game, raffle tickets will be sold and be drawn at halftime.
All raffle proceeds will benefit Mahaska Health Radiology for free mammograms and the local Relay for Life chapter.
