Des Moines–The William Penn volleyball team remained winless in Heart of America Athletic Conference action with a 3-0 loss to Grand View Tuesday.

The Statesmen (2-13, 0-3 Heart) fell by scores of 10-25, 5-25, 22-25. The Vikings, who are unofficially #29 in the NAIA, improved to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The visitors were knotted up with GVU at 6-6 in the first set, but could not stay with GVU. After a rough second go-round, the navy and gold came out much stronger in the third set. WPU led 19-17 late, but unfortunately was unable to extend the evening.

Savanna Hartman (Jr., Morgan Hill, Calif., Psychology) and Claire Simmons (Fr., Williamsburg, Iowa, Psychology) each tallied five kills, while Leyra Jusino (Sr., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) recorded 14 assists and seven digs.

Simmons and Danielle Breeher (Sr., St. Louis, Mo., Biology) both served up an ace in the setback.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Dubuque to compete in a triangular hosted by Clarke. The Statesmen meet Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) at 5 p.m. and host Clarke at 7 p.m.
