Statesmen of the Week: Xzavion West and Phoebe Burt

Oskaloosa–Men’s track and field athlete Xzavion West (Jr., Guthrie, Ky., Undecided) and women’s track and field athlete Phoebe Burt (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) have been named Statesmen of the Week for April 14-20, an honor presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

At the Culver-Stockton Invitational last Friday, West turned in an impressive all-around performance, earning second in the hammer throw with a toss of 184-3. He also finished sixth in the shot put (48-0.75) and seventh in the discus (142-7). The Junior followed that up with an even stronger showing at the Mount Mercy Debacker Invitational last Saturday. He captured first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 186-8, added a runner-up finish in the shot put at 49-4.5, and placed 15th in the discus (110-11).

At the Mount Mercy Debacker Invitational last Saturday, Burt continued her consistent form for the women’s team, posting two fourth-place finishes. She recorded a throw of 119-1 in the discus and reached 36-10.5 in the shot put.
