Statesmen Finish Fourth at Five Seasons Classic
Cedar Rapids–The William Penn men’s bowling team took fourth place out of 17 teams this weekend at the Five Seasons Classic in Cedar Rapids. The tournament marks the second straight top five finish for the Statesmen.
Jayson Miner (Sr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) continued his incredible start to the season, leading the Statesmen with a total pin count of 1,051. The total gave Miner a fourth place individual finish, his third straight finish inside of the top 10 to begin the season.
Rok Kostric (Sr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) joined Miner in the top 10, finishing close behind with 1,020 pins to place eighth among individuals. Aleksander Kostric (Sr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) trailed behind in 14th place after knocking down 978 pins in his five games of play.
Brandon Freese (Sr., Marshalltown, Iowa, Software Engineering) turned in the high individual game of the weekend for the Statesmen, rolling a 265 in his first game. He finished his three games with an average of 194. The Statesmen entered the Sunday rounds of Baker play sitting in third place 4,852 pins. The navy and gold started off strong in the first half of the Baker games, but faltered a little bit during the final eight, losing their third place position by just three pins.
The fourth place finish was still good enough to make the championship bracket, but the Statesmen fell in the first round of bracket play to the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees.
