Statesmen Fall Short at Baker

Baldwin City, Kan.–The William Penn volleyball team is still awaiting its first league win after being swept 3-0 by Baker in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Saturday.

The Statesmen (4-22, 0-10 Heart) lost by scores of 22-25, 14-25, 17-25.

Savanna Hartman (Sr., Morgan Hill, Calif., Psychology) had a team-high seven kills, while Lilly Martinez (Sr., Oakland, Calif., Psychology) recorded five winners with a squad-best .357 attack percentage. Shawni Wills (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) also managed four kills.

Kathleen Steffen (So., Vinton, Iowa, Biology) assisted 12 times and Ashley Miller (So., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) had 14 digs. Casi Gacusana (Fr., Kea’au, Hawaii, Biology) was in double figures as well with 12 digs.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host Avila in Heart play at 7 p.m.
