Southern Iowa Fair Wraps Up Day Two
This 'Crazy Quilt' is up for raffle by The Helping Hands Quilt Guild to help the FFA and 4-H, stop by the DAV building to sign up and also to enjoy their air conditioning!
The Southern Iowa Fair capped off it’s second day with the Twin States Truck and Tractor Pull at the Grandstand.
The heat continued it’s punishment upon the fair-goers for a second day in a row. The extreme heat is difficult on people as well as animals on display.
The Quilt Show and Raffle continues in the DAV building where just one dollar will buy you a chance at winning a homemade quilt. If the chance at winning the quilt isn’t incentive enough, it’s a good excuse to enjoy some air conditioning. If you forget, 4-H and FFA members will be roaming the fairgrounds selling raffle tickets as well. The proceeds from the raffle go towards a scholarship for a senior in either FFA or 4-H.
The Helping Hand Quilt Guild had 10 people working on the quilt, each with about 5 hours a month over a 3 month period in order to complete it in time for the fair. The pattern of this years quilt is reminiscent of years gone by when women would use up scraps of material they had around the home.
The group also helps out those less fortunate by making quilts for Hospice, the Women’s Shelter, and those that may have lost their home due to disaster. When you stop by to see them, they have other items for sale to help fund those endeavors.
The Twin States Truck and Tractor Pull had the grandstand area shaking in the evening. Results are as follows:
