Softball Cancer Awareness Day Set for Sunday

William Penn Women's Athletics

Oskaloosa–The Lady Statesmen softball team will hold a Cancer Awareness Day this Sunday with proceeds going to a special member of the softball family.

Numerous activities will be available during William Penn’s doubleheader against Ashford (first pitch set for 2 p.m.).

A raffle will be held in the fourth inning of the day’s second game, including signed items from New York Giant safety and Oskaloosa native Tyler Sash. Tickets will be sold as so: one (1) for $2; three (3) for $5.

A Silent Auction will be held as well, allowing individuals to purchase Sunday’s pink game jerseys. The auction winners will be announced at the end of the doubleheader.

Raffle and auction winners do NOT need to be present to win.

Another fun feature of Sunday’s event will be a Home Run Contest between games. Individuals can take a swing for $1 and anyone who hits a home run will receive a prize.

Every dollar raised will go to the family of Kayla Atkins to pay for her medical expenses as she undergoes cancer treatment. Kayla is the sister of former Lady Statesmen player Kara Atkins.
