School board approves letter of support for Lacey Complex

Oskaloosa School Administration

The Oskaloosa School Board has approved a letter of support of the Lacey Complex’s grant application. The grant, which is in the amount of $1.8 million, will be used for continued projects at the Lacey Complex. This letter of support was NOT for the new stadium project. The City Council approved a similar letter earlier last week. In addition to the support letter, the school board heard comments from Senior Charlie Comfort. Comfort offered information on school violence and made proposals to the school board on what they can do to help out the issue. “I believe that many students are getting in fights as a result of the drama in the high school. In my opinion, some of these fights could be considered assault.” said Comfort. Comfort also went on to say that “We as students should not feel unsafe at school.” In other action, the school board:

  • Re-Elected Don Patterson and Lin Yoder as President and Vice President of the board.
  • Heard a presentation from Doug Gibson on the progress of the District’s Leadership Team
  • Approved Midwestone Bank, First National Bank Midwest, and Valley Bank as the school districts depositories
  • Approved the establishment of the Oskaloosa Robotics Club as an official club at Oskaloosa High School
  • Named Martin Brothers as the districts Prime Food Vendor
  • Approved the intent to retire from Darrell Schumacher as PE Teacher, Head Football Coach, Assistant Track Coach, and weight room supervisor
