Ryan Slager repeats as finalist for Cliff Harris Award
GRINNELL, Iowa – For the second year in a row, Grinnell College’s Ryan Slager ’19 has advanced from being a nominee to a finalist for the prestigious Cliff Harris Award.
The Cliff Harris Award is given to the nation’s top small college defensive player and the namesake is a former NAIA player from Ouachita Baptist University who went on to play in five Super Bowls and six Pro Bowls while with the Dallas Cowboys.
Slager, a 6-1, 225-pound linebacker from Orland Park, Ill. (Amos Alonzo Stagg), is a D3football.com All-West Region Team selection for the second year in a row. He broke the NCAA record, regardless of level, for career tackles per game with 15.13 over four years. His 605 career tackles rank first all-time at the D-III level and second overall. His solo tackle total of 271 is fifth all-time.
An overall winner will be announced Dec. 24th and honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet on Jan. 10, 2019. The winner will receive the $3,000 Cliff Harris Award trophy presented by Cliff Harris. In addition to the overall winner, the top vote getters from each division will also be announced. A prestigious group of former college and pro football greats serve on the Cliff Harris Award Committee.
