Ronald Wharton, 72, of Fremont died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at his home in Fremont. He was born April 24, 1949, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Harold and Fairy Mincer Wharton.

Ron attended the Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1967.

After graduating, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and served his country on two tours overseas in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home.

On August 27, 1981, Ron was united in marriage to Phyllis Lucas in Cleveland, Texas.

Ron worked at a foundry in Oskaloosa for a time until he took a job at Excel in Ottumwa. Later, he took a job at Vermeer in Pella. He remained working there until retiring.

Ron was a member of The ROCK Christian Life Center in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed watching T.V., especially the Three Stooges and Gunsmoke.

His family includes his wife, Phyllis Wharton of Fremont; his children, Ron Jr. and Lynn; ten grandchildren; a step-son, David McAdoo; two brothers, Roy (& Linda) Wharton of Oskaloosa and Butch (& Judy) Wharton of Oskaloosa; and Justin McAdoo, who was like a son to Ron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-sons, Kenny and Phillip Gideon; a sister, Beverly L.; and a brother, Raymond Wharton.

As was Ron’s wish his body has been cremated.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the ROCK Christian Life Center in Oskaloosa with Pastor Paul Williams officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will follow services at Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa with military rites provided by members of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Oskaloosa.
