All Rollers Average Over 200 to Guide WPU

Wauwatosa, Wis.–Strong individual play guided the William Penn men’s bowling team to a top-10 effort at the season-opening Midwest Championships Saturday and Sunday.
The Statesmen finished ninth out of 40 teams with 9,639 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. The squad was in fourth place after regular individual play, but unfortunately struggled a bit in Baker play.
Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) took the team title with 10,050 pins, while Ryan Koesema of Saint Xavier (Ill.) topped the individual standings with a 235.7 average.
All six Statesmen who started games over the weekend broke the 200 barrier for average, highlighted by David Decker (So., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) who posted a 218.5 mark with four games over 200 (high of 244).
Nick Walker (Jr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) was right on his tail at 218.2 with five games over 200 (high of 263), while Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was also high on the overall list at 215.0 (five over 200, high of 252).
Aleksander Kostric (Fr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management), who also started all six rounds, owned a 205.5 clip. Quincy Bruce (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting), at 207.0 over four games, and Sean Martin (Fr., Dayton, Ohio, Mechanical Engineering), at 222.0 in two games, rounded out the lineup.
Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on October 21-22 to compete in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout.
