Rex Lee Sherburne, 66, passed away Monday afternoon, March 11, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Rex Lee Sherburne, son of Rex Darrel and Virginia Eileen Barnhill Sherburne, was born November 21, 1946, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1964 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Following his high school education he worked at Clow Valve Company and also attended Vennard College. He married Elaine Moffet and to that union his daughter, Kelli was born. They later divorced. He later married Yolanda Naylor and to that union, his children: Jessica, Angela, Jonathan, Benjamin and Elizabeth were born. They later divorced as well. Rex lived for several years in Indiana and worked as a plumber. He returned to Oskaloosa in 1994, and worked for Vermeer Manufacturing until ill health in recent months required his retirement. Rex was diagnosed with A.L.S./Lou Gehrig’s Disease the first week of March and his health deteriorated rapidly. Rex enjoyed flying remote control airplanes with his friends.
Rex is survived by his six children; his mother, Virginia Sherburne of Oskaloosa; a sister, Peggy (Paul) Nichols of Richland, IA; a nephew, Eric (Kristen) Fox of Oskaloosa; two good friends: Dean Hughes of Rose Hill and Dean Swim of Oskaloosa.
In addition to his father, Rex was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew.
Memorial services for Rex will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Boomershine of the Central United Methodist Church officiating.
His body has been cremated and burial of his ashes will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will held from 9 a.m. to service time on Friday morning.
