Residents participate in MHP “Run in the Sun”

The Age Group Medal Winners at the Run in the Sun Event

Oskaloosa, Iowa- Over 200 people came out to the Lacy Recreation Complex on Saturday to participate in the inaugural “Run in the Sun.” The event was a 5K Run and a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. The event was a fundraiser for the Hospital Serenity House. Planning for the event itself began  almost a year ago after Brett Johnson, a Clow Valve Employee, wrote the Hospital a letter bringing up the idea. “We probably started planning it before Christmas,” said Cathy Stahl Mahaska Health Partnership Marketing and Development Director.

Stahl continued, “I’ve got a wonderful committee that was pulled together, racers who know what their doing, members of the MHP foundation. It’s a foundation event but we ended up pulling several people that weren’t foundation board members or connected because they knew how to run and they very generously gave us their time. We’re very appreciative of that.” The overall Male Winner (and respective age group winner) was Skylar DeJong. The overall Female winner (and respective age group winner) was Betsy Luck. The rest of the age group winners of the 5K race are listed below.

Age 14 and Under, Females: Sienna DeJong (1^st), Bailey Blythe (2^nd) and Grace Phillips (3^rd). Males: Drew Applegat (1^st), Nate Caves (2^nd) and Vincent Ramirez (3^rd).
Age 15 to 18, Females: Megan Goemat (1^st), Cassie Phillips (2^nd) and Laine Phillips (3^rd). Males: Skylar DeJong (1^st), Spencer DeJong (2^nd) and Brian Saunders (3^rd).
Age 19 to 29, Females: Valinn McReynolds (1^st), Hailey Moore (2^nd) and Jamie Life (3^rd). Males: Kent Peterson (1^st), Brett Ford (2^nd) and Jake Jenkins (3^rd).
Age 30 to 39, Females: Betsy Luck (1^st), Katie Wise (2^nd) and Lisa Beebe (3^rd). Males: Mark Stek (1^st), Ryan Vickerman (2^nd) and Roger Miller (3^rd).
Age 40 to 49, Females: Leanne Bartlow (1^st), Barb Finney (2^nd) and Sherry Conn (3^rd). Males: Brian Crile (1^st), Scott Meyer (2^nd) and Geoff Oscarson (3^rd).
Age 50 to 59, Females: Linda Adams (1^st), Joyce Burch (2^nd) and Becky Rozenboom (3^rd). Male: Richard Hanna (1^st), Marvin Knoot (2^nd) and Chad Falwer (3^rd).
Age 60 and Over, Females: Jean Welsh (1^st) and Shirley Vore (2^nd). Males: Peter Munnisi (1^st), Andrew Hazer (2^nd) and Tom Palmer (3^rd).
