Oskaloosa–For the second year in a row, Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) has earned his league’s highest honor as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s bowling team was announced Monday.
Rangel headlined the five-person squad as the league’s Player of the Year for the second-straight year, while teammates Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC) and Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS) joined him. St. Ambrose collected the other two all-MCC honors.
Kyle Anderson of SAU was tabbed as Newcomer of the Year, while Statesmen Head Coach Mark Van Wyk picked up MCC Coach of the Year laurels for the second-consecutive campaign.
Through 63 games, Rangel has posted an MCC-leading 217.7 average, including a season-high game of 269. The junior has won two tournaments, including last weekend’s MCC Championships and has never placed outside of the top 25 in nine events (three total top tens). Through February 5, he was ranked #3 in the nation according to collegebowling.com
Foster has the team’s second-best average at 209.0 in 62 games, including a school-record single-game high of 297. The 20th-ranked sophomore has two top tens.
Atkinson has started 57 games, posting a 207.5 average this winter. The senior, who was ranked 20th nationally, has a high game of 265 with two top-ten finishes.
With just one regular season tourney left on the schedule, #4 William Penn is basically guaranteed a bid to postseason competition at the USBC Sectionals in March.
