Question of the Week: Will the current unemployment rate will be a factor in the way you vote in the 2012 Presidential Election?
Oskaloosa, Iowa- Last week, we asked you if you would vote for President Obama if the Presidential Election was to be held last week. 132 residents responded with 84 residents (64%) saying No, 41 residents (31%) saying Yes, and 7 residents (5%) saying Unsure. The Question of the Week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the views of Osky News.
This week, we focus on the unemployment rate. Over the past 5 years, the unemployment rate has been steadily climbing. Despite attempts to create jobs, the rate continues to climb. The White House recently came under scrutiny when Senior Staffer David Plouffe, Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, said that Americans will not vote based on what unemployment numbers look like next year. On a side note, the Huffington Post recently reported that no President has been re-elected with an unemployment rate above 7 percent.
Those who say the unemployment rate will be a factor cite recent jobs reports. They say that it is clear that unemployment is rising and will continue to rise unless there is a change in policies. Those who say it won’t matter say that it is all part of a cycle. They say that unemployment changes so dramatically that they will focus on other issues when they go to vote next November. Now its your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 PM next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting numbers.
