Question of the Week: Do you believe that the United States should get involved in the Northern Africa Protests?

Last week we asked you who you supported in the Wisconsin budget battle. 59 residents responded with 36 residents (61%) supporting Governor Walker, 20 residents (34%) supporting the Unions, and 3 residents (5%). The Question of the Week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the view of Osky News. As a follow up to last week’s Question, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed the bill that strips unions of collective bargaining rights on a 51-17 vote this past week.

This week, we transition to an international issue. For a couple of months now we have heard of ongoing protests and revolutions in Northern Africa. The protests started as early as December in Tunisa to as recently as February 15th in Libya. These protests have lead to revolutions in these countries and the formation of new governments. However, in some places, the political leaders are not being swayed by the protesters and are continuing to stay in office.

The discussion on whether to get involved has been going on for a little while. Some believe that this is a situation similar to the Iraq war. Those who believe we should get involved in these protests cite the Iraq war as similar instances where we have successfully gotten involved into a situation like this. Those who don’t believe we shouldn’t get involved say that these countries are there own independent nations. They say that it is not the United States job to jump into every political uprising in the world.
