Question of the Week: Do you believe that the city should ban firearms on city owned property?
Last week, we asked you if you were pleased by the outcome of Superbowl XLV? 48 residents responded with 27 residents (56%) voting yes, 14 residents (29%) voting no, and 7 residents (15%) voting the commercials won. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the views of Osky News.
This week, we focus on a local political issue. For several weeks now, We have been hearing debate from local governing bodies as well as citizens about the possibility of a gun ban on city owned property. Residents have been sounding off on the issue quite vocally with some even expressing their opinions at local city council meetings. After much discussion this past week, the Oskaloosa City Council voted down a proposal 2-5 to have all city owned property a gun free zone.
Supporters of the proposal have said that the ban keeps employees and residents safe. They say that everyone has the right to a safe work environment and shouldn’t have to deal with guns at work. Opponents of the ban say that it is unconstitutional. They also say that it could stop law abiding citizens if there was to be a serious situation.
Now it’s your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 pm next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting numbers. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at info@oskynews.org or visit our Facebook page.
