Pinewood Derby visits Penn Central Mall
The 12th Annual Pine Wood Derby Race was held on April 2nd at the center court of Penn Central Mall. Registration for the races was from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m., with racing getting underway at 9:30.
All children pre-K to 12th grade and adults were allowed to participate.
5 oz. and 8 oz. cars were eligible to race. There were also an 8 oz. outlaw, 5 oz. and 8 oz. modified wheel base, 5 oz. outlaw extended wheel base and 5 oz. NASCAR categories.
The track was provided by the Hawkeye Cadet Council from Pella. The track is 70 feet long and has 8 lanes. It has electronic finishing with timing up to 1/1000 of a second.
Wood -N- Stuff will also hold their 2nd annual Pine Wood Derby Race at the county fair this year.
The trophies were provided by Wood -N- Stuff of Oskaloosa. All proceeds from the sale of the refreshments are used to pay for the trophies and medals.
There were 101 cars entered into the races, and the overall winners are as follows:
