Petition being circulated to hold special election on MHP Expansion Project
A petition to hold a special election relating to the $25 Million Mahaska Health Partnership expansion project is currently being circulated. The petition is at several different business in Osky. The circulation of this petition comes after a 2-1 vote from the Mahaska County Supervisors designating Mahaska Health Partnership as an Urban Renewal Zone and allowing for the issuance of bonds to help save money on the project.
The petition reads “We the undersigned request with this Petition that a Special Election be held to determine if the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors should issue Mahaska County General Obligation Bonds not to exceed $25,000,000.00 for the Mahaska County Hospital d/b/a/ Mahaska Health Partnership Surgery/Inpatient/Birthing Center Building Project.”
According to the Mahaska County Auditor’s Office, in order for the petition to be valid, it must have 851 signatures and must be turned in by closing time on April 4th. If the petition is declared valid a special election will be ordered. According to the Iowa Secretary of State Website, the election will be held on either Tuesday May 3rd, or Tuesday August 2nd.
