Penn Music Department Performs Rutter
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The William Penn Music Department will be performing selections for John Rutter’s song cycle, “The Sprig of Thyme” on Sunday, April 1, at 3:30 p.m. at the College Avenue Friends Church. “The Sprig of Thyme” contains melodies representing England, Northumbria, Lincolnshire, Scotland, and Ireland. The presentation of this concert is in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Conducting I course, allowing student conductors the opportunity to use their skills in a live concert experience. Conducting the William Penn Singers and Chamber musicians will be: Jerry Richardson, David Carlson, Drew Balta, Chris Meinert, Sydni Hansen, Kendall Den Hartog, Emory White, Nic Steel, and Ryan Poe.
Also included in this performance, the William Penn Singers will be presenting two Eric Whitacre selections from The City and the Sea, “Maggie and Milly and Molly and May” and “Little Man in a Hurry”, with lyrics from the poetry of E.E. Cummings. They will conclude with the beautiful Molly Ijames song, “A Farewell”. The William Penn Singers are under the direction of Anita Meinert and the conducting students are instructed by Meinert and Scott Cressley.
