Parks’ First Career Goal Leads Lady Statesmen to Win

William Penn Women's Athletics

Oskaloosa–Taylor Parks (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) got on the board for the first time as a collegiate athlete and her team made it stick as the William Penn women’s soccer team defeated St. Mary (Kan.) 1-0 in the opener of the William Penn Classic Friday.

The Lady Statesmen (1-3-1) picked up their first win of the year by outshooting the Spires 19-8, but none of the shots were bigger than Parks’ chip over the head of the opposing goalkeeper at the 9:40 mark.

A trio of players recorded a team-best three shots each and 11 different individuals tallied a shot on the evening.

Laura Gentry (So., Fruitland, Idaho, Fruitland HS) saved two shots for her first shutout in the navy and gold.

Next: The Lady Statesmen conclude the William Penn Classic Sunday by hosting non-conference foe Illinois College at 2 p.m.
