Papes, Terry Collect Statesmen of the Week Recognition

Oskaloosa–Men’s volleyball player Ike Papes (Jr., Elwood, Wis., Business Management) and women’s basketball player Morgan Terry (Jr., Cornersville, Tenn., Biology) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of January 24-30, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Papes helped WPU to a pair of big wins, sweeping Mount Mercy last Wednesday and rallying for a reverse sweep of #11 Missouri Baptist last Friday. In Wednesday’s matchup of two programs receiving votes nationally, Papes tallied 12 kills on a .269 attack percentage. He also added five digs, two aces, and two block assists. Two days later, Papes, who was injured during the match, braved the pain and still recorded a team-high 19 kills (.231 attack %) with seven digs, four block assists, and one ace.

Terry averaged 24.5 points as the Statesmen rallied to defeat Peru State on the road Wednesday and nearly replicated that performance at Evangel Saturday. Terry scored a career-high 30 points on 11-for-15 shooting against the Bobcats. She then went perfect from the floor, making all nine of her field-goal attempts as part of a 19-point showing versus the Valor.
